Why not fly off to the Caribbean with this cocktail of Cuban origin, which can be varied to suit your tastes? Our mixology expert will impress you by reworking the great classics!

At Jardin Malanga, in Guadeloupe, we create cocktails for you that marry and balance flavours. A true journey of original and surprising tastes. Today, our expert shares his recipe for the famous Daiquiri cocktail.

As for the story behind it, several legends claim the creation of this cocktail. The most famous says that at the beginning of the 20th century, an engineer named Pagliuchi visited an iron mine at Daiquíri, in eastern Cuba. He was received by an American engineer. After the visit, the latter wanted to offer his guest a drink but had only rum, sugar and lemons left in stock…! And so the Daiquiri was born.

Did you know? The famous Cuban cocktail is so celebrated that it now has its own day: 19 July is officially World Daiquiri Day!

So wait no longer, grab your shaker!

Ingredients:
- 4 cl white rum
- 2 cl lime juice
- 1 cl cane sugar syrup

Method:
Fill half a shaker with ice cubes.
Pour all the ingredients into the shaker.
Shake it all and pour, well chilled, into a Martini-style glass.

Many variations are possible, but our favourite remains the mango version, with mangoes freshly picked from the garden. The trick for this variation is to add 1.5 cl of mango purée.

Other versions are just as delicious, one sweeter and Creole, the other more traditional:
- A banana version, with two slices to add. It is then better to blend rather than shake, for a smoother texture.
- A “frenchy” version, with 2 cl of orange liqueur and 1.5 cl of orange juice to add.
It is up to you to choose your favourite variation or to find your own to impress your guests…

Our Expert's advice at Jardin Malanga: be careful not to try too many variations, and drink in moderation only!
